$50 bill

Postby eddie2003 on Thu Mar 04, 2010 10:09 am

A Congressman wants to take U.S. Grant off the $50, and replace him with Ronald Reagan. Discuss.

It will never happen. People get weird when they start messing with the designs of money. And just to transition from Grant to Reagan would be a huge undertaking. I have gotten used to seeing the redesigned bills we use now so much that when I run across an old one it throws me for a moment.

It would seem very strange to me. I have nothing much against Reagan, but Grant was the major force behind the Union Army defeating the Confederacy during the Civil War. Without Lincoln and him we wouldn't be the United States. It's pretty hard to beat that in terms of importance.

He wasn't much of a President, though.

I loved what Reagan did for this country, and I would love to see him get honored by something like that, but, I don't know if it's worth it. If they are going to redo the plates anyway, to continue to mess with counterfeiters, then why not, but, I'm against doing it just to do it.

I think there are much more important priorities that need to be dealt with than redesigning currency.

As much as Reagan is admired I don't think the general public will have much enthusiasm for the change if what happened a few years back here in California is any indication.

One of our brilliant state politicians decided he wanted to honor the former president (& governor) with a special issue license plate. The proceeds of the sales & special fees would have benefited some charity, I forgot which. The DMV rules state that at least 5,000 car owners had to order these special plates before they would consider even manufacturing them. The scheme fell flat. Out of a state with 20 million motorists they didn't even make the 3,000 mark.

Leave the money alone, things are fine the way they are.

A GIANT submarine! Nuclear. The most powerful in the world!

If I were going to have something named after me, that's what I'd want.

It's got nothing to do with the male psyche and penises though. Honest. :smt003

Hate to veer away from the game playing, but, I thought I'd through out, he also has an airport, Washington National is now Reagan National Airport. Oh, and on 14th Street in Washington, D.C. is the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The owner of one fo my former race teams sponsoring companies worked there for the EPA.

...It's tragic isn't it.

Y'know what though. I blame modern society. Poor men don't know what to do with themselves anymore. We used to be able to go out and hunt Sabre Tooth tigers and such, and then make ourselves feel good in an illusory way by bragging about it to one another. We can't even do that now. It's a terrible world we live in today...

And it really sucks that you guys can't club women over the head and drag them off to you caves any more either. :smt002

You just have to content yourselves with naming large phallic like building and monuments after yourselves.

Though you realise that it's only the large bell of the clock part that's called 'Big Ben', not the actual clock tower. But hey, I'm quite happy to share the name of a giant loud bell! If you're not going to have the same name as a gargantuan phallic shaped object that points up at the sky, you may share the name of something fricken loud and booming inside it instead....

I have been thinking, with the thread about the RT Anniversary, I miss OFAH, myself, and think she might well appreciate it if we replaced Jackson with Reagan. I know she hated him for his policies toward the First Nation. Based on both his support of slavery and the Indian Removal Act he signed, I can get behind replacing his image with Reagan's. Grant was anythign but a great President, however, he did set the standard for corruption in office that our modern politician's try hard to exceed.
