Have fun!

Thanks! I still have to buy a memory card for the camera (if Walmart is still open after the party I may stop by, as it's right on my way). I can take a few pictures on the internal memory, but apparently can't load them to my computer. I'll also have to see if I can install the software - it says it requires 512M memory, but I have a problem with my memory and am down to 256.

Wouldn't it have been better to stop off at Walmarts BEFORE the party ....I'd like to have seen a pic of all of the fun you had :smt001

Well, I didn't want to risk getting there after the birthday girl! I was surprised to find out later that Walmart's closes at 10 - when I rolled up at 5 past! I went back yesterday, and got the memory card, a charger for my iPod, a couple of cat toys, and some DVDs out of their $5 bin. I did have fun at the party; it was for a high school friend, and I saw another old friend I hadn't seen in a while. I tried three different kinds of pizza, and was totally stuffed! I'm not sure that a bunch of people sitting at tables would have made for such interesting photos, though.

My same friends (birthday girl and her husband) are having a Murder Mystery party in May - with a 70's disco theme!

Feeling a little wistful as today would have been Klaus' 68th birthday.

Was enjoying the lovely warmer temperatures we've had only to have Tim Helman burst the bubble - we're to have temps in the 20s again at the end of the week.

Just tried a satuma that went through the deep freeze on the tree - not bad, a little soft but still juicy and little difference in the taste.

I can relate to that 'wistful' feeling, Jen. This Wednesday the 27th would have been my mothers 72nd birthday. It's hard to believe that this March 4th, it'll be 7 years since she's been gone.Image

Aww - thanks guys. I feel much better now. I usually get some flowers from the garden for such occasions but after the freeze the other week, there is nothing in bloom - not even the camellias which normally are in full bloom now. This is the first time the garden is totally bare of color.

KW - LOL - and now I read your post I see I misspelled SATSUMA!

I just bought a new cell phone from Virgin Mobile, where my service account is. It's called Flare(very low tech considering a few of you out there) and very pink. It only cost $19.99 with $5.00 going to breast cancer research, and I also got free shipping. I'm happy. :smt023

Sitting at my desk recovering from the first two days of Spring term classes. They call this Spring?

Listening to my Baroque station on Pandora. It's playing Sonata for Keyboard in G Minor by Scarlatti. Very beautiful and it helps with the stress of work.

1. Got my W-2 form in the mail today. My co-workers have told me about filing my taxes online with Turbo Tax. Sounds like a good deal for only $29.95

2. Thinking on how this winter so far has been especially harsh & seems especially long. C'mon spring!

3. Made a batch of cookies using this incredibly simple recipe. Only 4 ingredients. This is about the 6th time I've used this recipe and I can testify it works. You can use a variety of ingredients in place of the chocolate chips which I have.

Tom, if you file just the simple form I think it's even cheaper than that - like $19.+ I have been filing with Turbo Tax online since 1997, and would never ever go back to having someone else do it for me. And you don't have to mail anything to the IRS which is really nice - you pay for it online, and get any refund direct deposit and if you owe the IRS you can pay by CC. It's a lot cheaper too doing your own. Can't beat that!

1. Wondering if the new warnings of a bad hurricane season will fall to nothing, as they did last year.

2. Thinking there is no way I can give Georgie a bath so he smells all nice for his dad coming home tomorrow.

3 Ordering a taxi so we can go out for lunch and celebrate my mum's 80th today.

1. Just fooled someone who called me on the phone by answering with a fake British accent. I knew who was calling so I thought I'd have some fun. They got so confused they hung up.... 'allow! 'allow!, who's speaking please! :smt012

2. Earlier today managed to get up on the roof to find the source of a leaking roof. I slathered roofing mastic everywhere I thought might be the problem. Fingers crossed, more storms on the way.

3. Feeling amazed on how quickly this weekend went by which means the work week will seem like eternity.

Thinking about my oral surgery on Wednesday. It's the same gum surgery Juana had last year. Can you give some idea of the recovery time, Juana? I have enough soft foods in the house to last for a week or so.

Thinking hot fudge sundaes could be considered soft food. :smt002 :smt001

Wondering if they have something really crunchy in the cafeteria to eat for lunch.

When I was a kid my parents made me and my brother answer the phone formally whenever it rang. We had to say "Park Street" (which was the local area code district) followed by our local six digit number. It became second nature and I never really thought about it too much until I left home, but it sounds really weird today. A bit 'posh'. I just say "hello" when I pick up the phone now.

Actually, I think it was the year before last! How time flies! My oral surgery for last year was having a root canal redone because of an infection.

So, I've managed to blank it out of my mind well enough to not really remember how long it took, sorry! I think it might have been two or three weeks that they told me to keep on soft foods. I definitely concur that a hot fudge sundae qualifies - as long as you don't put any nuts on it!

Wow, I just searched for the posts, and it wasn't even the year before last - it was in 2007!!! :smt008 At the same time you had your 'flipper'.

According to the post I just read, he told me that it would be either 6 to 8 weeks or 1 to 3 days to recover, which rather confused me. I see later on that they gave me instructions to follow for 2 weeks, which sounds about right.

I will be thinking about you!!! That was no fun!!! But I don't think it was as bad as your flipper ordeal, so maybe it will be a piece of cake for you! (Hmmm, some cake is nice and soft! :smt002 )

Our home number growing up was Walnut 5619; the local pancake house was Walnut 5616. Rotters that we were we'd 'take' the orders and tell folks their food would be ready in 15 minutes. Until Mum caught my older brother doing so :smt012

Dragon, we were taught to answer the phone much in the same manner, saying Walnut 5619 instead of hello; I always thought it was because we were on a party line for much of my childhood, but it may have been because Mum was Irish.

Thanks, Juana. Two weeks sounds like the recovery time for my flipper stuff. That's usually when the stitches start falling out.

I've been putting this off for awhile, and I figured best to get it done now in the dead of winter.

I like that Barbara- "Walnut 5619". Funny! We used to have to say "Park Street 73472" when we picked up the phone. When they added an extra digit in the 80's it became "Park Street (8)73472". That was it. You didn't say 'hello' or anything like that. You immediately just announced who you were- by number and local dialing district. I used to do it so much then it became second nature- you just rattled it off your tongue. It didn't seem weird at all. I wouldn't do it now though. I don't think anyone does it anymore- it's like something out of a different era (almost Hitchcockian). I stopped doing it when I moved out of home in my very early twenties.

I still remember our number in England - we would answer the phone "Ardingly 437". Klaus, on the rare occassions he answered the phone, would just say our last name.

I make sure that my folks got the same number they had when I was growing up when they moved to the assisted living place that they're at now. I thought that it would be best given the fact that my mom's Alzheimer's is progressing to the point that she doesn't know my voice anymore.

Re: 3 facts about you right *now*

It was always just a simple 'hello' when answering the phone when I was growing up.

That was unless I was under orders from my mom, "I'm only home for my friends." She had so many friends & apparently she expected me also to be a psychic. If I let certain friends she didn't feel like talking to at the moment get through, I would catch hell later. :smt006

In hindsight, I realize we kids were also used to screen calls from bill collectors. There were an awful lot of those too. :smt011

Thinking hot fudge sundaes could be considered soft food. :smt002 :smt001

Wondering if they have something really crunchy in the cafeteria to eat for lunch.

Good luck to you S. I'll be thinking of you!

Thanks, Kat. I'm just looking forward to getting it over with at this point. The anticipation is worse than the recovery time, which is a good excuse to eat lots of ice cream and pudding.

I hope you oral surgery goes well for you on Wednesday Sandy. Like you say, something like that it's best to get it over with rather than dread it.

Yeah, likewise for me Jenn. That number's still indelibly imprinted in my memory from when I was a little kid. Fuckin' weird.

It is weird, innit! Especially since I cannot remember any other phone number but our current home number -not even my cell phone ...I have that written down and keep it with the phone. :smt006

Aye. Likewise Jenn. That old number, and the area code, is something I completely still remember to this day- it still rolls out of my head immediately. I can't remember any other land line number from anywhere else I've lived (even my current one- though I don't really use it that much). However I do have my mobile number indelibly imprinted on my memory in the same way. I've had the same 'cell phone' number since about 1995, and it's quite an easy one to remember. Another number I always remember is my old alarm code for the first studio I used to work in as an assistant, and then a photographer. I still use some of the digits sequence today for other things occasionally- merely because I remember them.

I have an inane ability to remember phone numbers, including every place I've lived or worked, and clients phone numbers; if I've called you twice the number is etched on gray matter permanently. My older sister was going through old photos and one had 'Briarwood 40186' penciled on the back of it; it was driving her crazy as to what it meant. It was our great-grandmother's telephone number; she died in 1964.

Yeah, but he would probably put something even wackier in with it like smoked duck's feet or minced pig snouts.

Really, vanilla pudding with tuna might not be as awful as we seem to think, provided the pudding wasn't sweetened in any way. I am not, however, going to be the first to try it.

Minced pig snout and tuna pudding sausages in chocolate sauce and decorated with gold leaf. Served on a bed of curried brussels sprouts flavoured jello/jelly.
