A very fishy tale

Postby ukus on Thu Aug 06, 2009 2:40 pm

LONDON (Aug. 4) -- She was big. She was beautiful. And boy was she popular with the fishermen.
The death last week of Benson, the monster carp, has sent grief rippling through the British fishing community. Enthusiasts used to flock to Benson's home, the Bluebell Lakes in Cambridgeshire, for a shot at yanking the 64-pound behemoth out of the water. Her sheer size and picture-perfect looks won the hearts of the readers of Angler's Mail, who voted her Britain's favorite carp in 2005.

She was around twenty five years old they say. I wonder if catching her and yanking her out of the water for photo op's helped?

Everytime Terry has fished I always make him ( reluctantly on his part) throw them back. One time after Hurricane Christi he fished off the gulf and didn't even have to cast a line they were so thick . He just dipped his rod in the water and they jumped right on.
I'll never forget one little striped fishy (well actually he was quite a decent size) swam gently out when Terry released him and then turned and faced us before dashing off. "Good God " say's Terry " that fish looks like he's thanking us"

I always wondered if fish can feel pain?

Anyway before you heathens start on with the all of the chips to go with it jokes ... here is the article.

She may be beautiful but carp tastes nasty! On my first visit to what was then East Germany in 1989, they had it for New Years dinner - it's traditional there. It was all I could do to force it down. And I love fish. Klaus and I used to go all the time, but we usually kept a couple for dinner that night.

What a shame she had to die - maybe they caught and released her one too many times.
