I think if schools starting teaching the kids to read, write and do math and all those subjects, and actually have them pass exams instead of letting them slide, then we wouldn't need to pass out condoms.

I am against it. Full stop!

Are they just handing them out willy-nilly (pun intended) or is it in conjunction to personal health classes, or only if a student asks? While I see nothing wrong with making condoms available to kids who ought to be using them if they are sexually active, I think the schools are missing a golden opportunity to educate if they don't accompany the distribution of condoms with some honest information and instructions on proper usage.

Hmmm, I've never heard that doing schoolwork is an effective form of birth control! Back when I was in school... :smt002 there were plenty of kids having sex, both good and bad students. My brother went to an all-boys Catholic private school, and he still managed to get his girlfriend pregnant when they were 16. Then he later got another girlfriend pregnant when they were in college. He once let it slip that he had gotten three girls pregnant, but I don't know who or when was the third. IMO, he could have used some condoms! :smt006

I'm against the school giving them out. Teenagers should be taught about contraception, abstinence and relationships rather than just sexual acts. Then give them information on STDs and family planning etc and how to access local services - from which they could obtain free condoms.

I was interested to hear that according to a poll of British teens they would rather have less sex taught to them at school and more about budgeting and personal finances. Maybe then people will be in better financial positions to have kids and our economies wont be so far up the spout.

While I do understand what you're saying Juana, I do not think it is the schools (read, us taxpayers) who should be handing out condoms. These kids have money enough for their video games and dates, so they, or their parents should be supplying them. Not me!

I mean what's next - the school supplying all the girls with tampons?

I guess I would rather fork out the dough for a rubber than have to support (through taxes) the mother and child on welfare. Education is the key. I don't think that it will solve all teenage pregnacy, I mean really when you're in the backseat with sally-rotten-crotch and the little head starts thinking for you, rubber or not you're gettin' some if you can.

Strange since the US voted with Iran in the UN to stop promoting condoms and fund abstenance, well who would have thought the dichotomy. :smt009
