How's the Weather?

Postby Grimm Ghost on Sun Nov 21, 2004 10:28 pm

I've never seen it snow so early in the year here... Mojave Desert, at 3200 ft.

Here are some pics, I took tonight, from my security cameras at my business:

I live in probably one of the only places in the country where it never bloody snows! I saw some in North Wales though on Wednesday, but that's it.
The weather here isn't anywhere like it is where you are right now, Grimm.....it's a bit cold but not too much, probably because it's warmed up a bit since it is now after 5 o'clock.

yes it is, skulax...it's been pretty cold and frosty this past week, but the temperatures are rising and we'll soon be back to the mild, muggy damp weather that is typical of winter in south-east England. The sun is rising as I type, and it looks as if it'll be a fairly clear sky today...which means cold weather..but I love cold frosty mornings, we don't get enough of them.

Snow really creates an alien atmosphere.

Yes, SKULAX. I've many fond memories of snowy days as a young punk. I didn't even mind shoveling and salting the walks. ;-)

Jiff and Lil, I bet Daft D' and MsOmni don't envy your lack of snow. ;-)

Snow is still falling.

Not for me. I'm quite jealous of people who are sick of it-i'd love the opportunity to have snow so often that I hate it. I know i've mentioned that before but it deserves to be stated again and again and again!!!!!
We get hail quite a lot in the winter though.

Well, we get plenty of snow from late November to March, we'll send some over....and you can take some of our -20 F temps and -40 or -50 F Wind Chills...you can have some of that too if you'd like.....

Oh, no no no....that's not how that works....you don't get temperary climate change.....you have to take it year in and year out....although here's the good news....our summers are much warmer than your summers... we consistently get into the 80s and 90s here....

But I stated that I only want that weather until I don't want it anymore, so it has to work that way. Anyway, I hate warm summers so that's not good news at all. I much prefer cold weather.

This year is supposed to be quite good for snow...I almost always used to see at least a flurry of the white stuff on the North Downs, SE England often has the most snow in England. I may see some in London as I finish my holidays on the 4th of January  The crime! 18 days is not a holiday! But I get 36 days off at easter, so that will have to do I suppose. I'm not sure I have ever seen snow in London before...and I've been going there for about 14 christmas's

Anyway do that to some barbecue stuff, and you'll be able to make some money out of it I think. It wil create a nice little niche market for fans of cold weather.

 great picture!!

Actually our gas grill sits on our back deck all year round and unless the winds is truly howling we grill out all year long. Since that part of the deck is under cover it works out perfectly.

Today is vile, dank, intermittent rain and about 47F/8C. Tonight the temps are said to fall so our high tomorrow will be about 32/0. Snow is forecast for Thursday.

Heh heh heh!

California got the bad weather for a change.

There's no snow here (I wish there was). We usually get a flurry in late December or January but for the last 10 years it has never been more than about 4 inches.

It was rather warmish today in East Yorkshire. Sweater and jacket, or t-shirt and coat weather.

No... Actually, it's the rear of a Funeral Home..(Where the bodies and coffins arrive) The 'A' framed part of the building is the Chapel. The front of the building is directly on Historic Route 66.

Well I can remember when I was about 9 or 10 and the snow was about half a metre high in West Yorkshire. Plenty of sledging in Thornes park and Pontefract park!

On a trip to meet my granddad's nieces in North Yorkshire the snow was so high that when driving on the roads you could only see a wall of snow on either side! The snow was higher than the motor home we were in!

But I've never seen anything like that since.

Me too!!! I was at uni- I went to class at 0800, had 2 classes in the same building without an exterior view; came out to 9 inches of snow!!! They ended up closing the university at noon. We got 26 inches of snow in 9 hours (thanks, Lake Erie), and it snowed steadily for a week. Then the temps dropped to -18F with a strong Canuck wind that blew all that snow and made everything miserable. The we rose to a whopping20F and the bloody snow started back up for another week!

I had to crawl out of Gran's window to shovel snow off the roof and knock off icicles lest they fall and kill the postman.

We had about 4" of beautiful white powder here in Dallas a week ago but it was all gone by the next day. Right now, it's a bit overcast, but I didn't even need a jacket when I took my morning walk today. It's working it's way toward 70 degrees today but I hear we're supposed to get a bit of rain tomorrow and Friday. I really don't mind that, unless it freezes. These native Texans really don't have a clue how to drive in nasty weather.

We're finally thawing out; some folks are still without electric from the ice storm that roared through here on the 23rd. The city can't be arsed to salt or plow the residential streets so travel has been tricky at best. Hopefully it'll stay above freezing for a few days and the roads will clear themselves.

We got about a foot of snow the day after
Christmas. It looked nice for about a day,
now what's left is dirty, slushy and refreezes
at night so the walking is treacherous,
especially since people seldom shovel the
sidewalks in front of their houses anymore.
I made a small fortune every winter doing that.

The snow didn't stop the lunatics from shopping
on the 26th, though (myself included)!
Bitterly cold on Monday and Tuesday,
40 degrees today and nearing 50
tomorrow and New Year's Eve with
some rain expected. Weird weather.
It usually stays cold until mid April, with
a very rare day in the forties. Must be
something to that global warming crisis.

Supposed to get up to 73 in Dallas today. The norm is mid-50s for this time of year. It's gonna get cold by next Wednesday they say.

Yikes !

Postby ruexperienced on Mon Jan 03, 2005 9:46 am

It has been pouring rain in Los Angeles for the last 5 days straight, with only a short respite Saturday evening/Sunday morning.

I think we've gotten about 12 inches of rain during that time as I live in foothills north of Loas Angeles.

Strange maybe, but with so much sunshine here in Cali, I LOVE THE RAIN WHILE ITS HERE.

I've had so much rain my phones and dsl have been knocked out since the rain started.

I've gotten the phones back up, but my dsl circuit is dead as a doornail.

I've only been able to use dial up *BARF* since Wednesday.

I don't know how you dial uppers deal with that shite.

God bless you for having the patience because I sure don't anymore.

I guess thats what happens when you go from a 6 MB DL DSL to sub 56k dial up.

CRIKEY !
