Ladette to Lady

Postby Caer Ibormeith on Tue May 02, 2006 9:44 am

I just found this series on the Sundance Channel this past Sunday. It's about a group of "ladettes" who get sent to a finishing school in Yorkshire in order to become ladies. They're being taught things like deportment, elocution, cookery, social ettiquette and flower arranging  of all things. The girls have pretty wild behavior: binge drinking, indiscriminate sex and exhibitionism. Have the British roundies ever seen it.

I've not seen it, but I am aware of it.

It was shown on ITV1 last summer I think. The thing is, we, and you too most probably, are inundated with shows like this now. The TV companies have cottoned on to the fact that it's cheap TV to make. But people are getting tired of them, well I am, anyway!

It did seem little strange to me, like putting two extreme stereotypes together and seeing what would happen. Foul-mouthed drunks and stuck up Miss Prisms. No real value at all. I won't catch it again, then. Thanks.

It is on right before Slings and Arrows, a show about a Shakespeare company in contemporary Toronto that's very witty. That, I would recommend most highly.

But that is the formula for many of these 'reality' shows. Take Wife Swap - they put some country hillbilly wife into the home of some uptight city folk or a hippie Mom into a straight laced family. The Paris Hilton show is another one of that formula - two overpriveleged rich girls getting down and dirty with some working people.

I am sick of all the reality shows. Everything runs in cycles, when the TV companies see their is money to be made they take an idea and beat it to death.

I know, Tex, but I was hoping that the Sundance Channel would be a little better than this. I guess it has to fill time, too.

I've seen it a few times. Quite a trainwreck. They quite possibly found the most common women in England for it. You'd be embarrassed for them but they don't seem to care!
