My Mum had a load of gift vouchers she had from collecting Air Miles which she decided to give me for Christmas- just as an extra little pressie. So I bought Lost Season Four with them a few days ago. I haven't seen it yet as it's now being shown on Sky over here. Man I can't believe it. ONLY FOURTEEN EPISODES LONG! I feel cheated!! I guess that must have had something to do with the writers strike last year....

Well, I've finished them! P's 'upset' with me because I watched them before she did. Sorry P :smt003

I enjoyed it but I think it's the weakest Season overall. Lost has always been pretty preposterous-
Spoiler:
but moving the island with a big wooden wheel?
I like the way they are going with the story though, not quite what I expected. I also like the flashbacks and flashforwards now being used at the same time- it's quite clever.

Whose your favourite character? I think Sayid for me at the moment.

Well, of course Sawyer!!! Although I also like Sayid quite a bit, too. And Locke is a very complex and fascinating character.

I thought the last season started off a bit slow, but got better as the season went on.

I agree Juana. The first few episodes were a bit slack, though it picked up nicely around the middle. Although the story has started to get even more slightly 'out there' (as if that's possible!)...
Spoiler:
time travel etc
...I like the way they are developing the arc of the storyline off the island. It's very clever. I reckon they're having a lot of fun with their script development. I didn't think the finale was as good as Season 3 though. It was enjoyable and kept you watching, but it lacked something for me. I think it might be that I guessed....
Spoiler:
who was in the coffin before the end of the last episode. The use of another famous philosopher's name for the same person was too much of a give away.
.... And, cheesy as it was, Charlie's demise in Season 3 was kind of moving. I didn't quite feel the same way...
Spoiler:
with the principle characters who died at the end of Season Four
....Not in the way they cut and edited it.

I keep switching favourite characters all the way through- I also like Desmond at the moment. But I think it has more to do with the fact that I can see the writers are having a bit of fun with what they can do with his character. He's like the wild card in the deck.

You don't have to watch it Jenn...

It is a nutzoid show- from an overall story pov, but I do love it. However, the story line arc, in terms of how they develop it, is about as innovative as you can get on tv drama today. I've got to take my hat off to the Americans- they make the best tv drama right now. When I was a kid we all used to get very snobby about how much better the Brits were at innovative/quality tv drama. But not so anymore. I think the Americans are well ahead of the game.

They are also running a lot of ads for 'The Beast' starring Patrick Swayze. I like him very much as an actor (and his distinct voice ) but I read lately that he has taken a turn for the worse battling his Pancreatic cancer, poor love.

Me too. I like him very much as an actor, and of course I’ll never forget him in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, two girls films I suppose, but I love them dearly. The same as his song: She’s like the wind. I hope we can have him much longer alive on this planet though!

I think Lost is a programme that will always divide people. My brother saw his first episode a while back and hated it from that day onwards. The first time I saw the first series back in 2004- I loved it.

But, despite all that, it is one of the best produced programmes on television right now. I read a while back that they shoot it all in Hawaii. Even the London exterior scenes are shot in Hawaii- they digitise the backgrounds afterwards. It's very impressive. And, the music score is simply stunning. In my view one of the best orchestral scores ever made for a tv programme/series, regardless of whether you like the story or not (and there aren't very many orchestral scores made for tv of this calibre).

The nine bars of the "Life and Death" piece on piano that they use throughout the series, as a motif for certain scenes, still kills me inside. It's one of those compositions that you hear sometimes that you know will haunt you for the rest of your life. It is a beautiful piece of music.

Re: LOST ***WARNING SPOILERS***

I thought the official line was that it was going to run for six series?

Anyway- here's my alternative ending:

Jack and Sawyer- get into a testosterone fueled punch up in the mud, semi naked. Millions of women around the world get excited, but the twist is that they both fall in love with each other. The whole sub text about Lost becomes actually a subversive theme for 'lost' males who can't find their way out of the cupboard.

Kate- decides to join a nunnery after she realises that she's now even more confused about the whole Jack/ Sawyer/ Kate love triangle than the rest of us. Millions of men around the world mourn the loss of ever seeing her sexy little botty in tight jeans ever again.

Locke- decides that after regaining the control of his legs, he now wants his hair back as well. He is last heard shouting at a qualified trychologist- DON'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN'T DO!

Claire- stops being a little gurly girl, joins a gym and beefs up, becoming a sexy Amazon vixen and spends the rest of her life fighting other sexy Amazons, wearing a very liberally styled loin cloth.

Claire's baby (Aaron)- is revealed as the second Jesus Christ. A new religion is formed called Lostianity- that follows the teachings of Aaron. Later there is a bit off a duff-up between the Lostians over how Aaron was immaculately conceived and how important Claire was to Aaron. The more guilt prone Lostians form a new branch of Lostianity called Lostolism.

Sayid- becomes the next President of Iraq. But still does a little bit of the old torture thing on the side.

Hurley- goes on a major crash diet and forms a Charlie tribute band. Tickets for his latest gig are now available on Seetickets.com and Ebay.

Sun- takes over her Dad's business empire and uses the proceeds to fight dastardly crime around the World- the Flaming Lips write a tribute song about her called 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots'.

Juliet- realises that it's her forlorn, downcast demeanour that's actually preventing babies being born on the island- after watching one too many Jim Carrey movies.

The Smoke Monster- is accidentally chopped in two (like a worm) by the Amazing Energy Powered Perimeter Fence TM- after it's switched on by Locke in anger whilst looking in a mirror and realising he will be forever follically challenged. The two halves of the Smoke Monster fall in love, bringing out it's more sensitive side. The Smoke Monster becomes a metrosexual.

The Island- becomes a theme park run by Steven Spielberg with the most popular ride being the Smoke Monster Express- a rollercoaster ride where people sit in the Smoke Monster as it propels itself around the island with vomit inducing effect.

Vincent- the dog is revealed as a lady dog as a final twist- and gives birth to lots of puppies.

What do ya think? Do ya think I've got it right?

Watch this space kidz....

Anyone got any other alternative endings? We could send them off to the producers and see if they listen. Ha ha.

*I am joking*

On a more 'relevant' note the only things I can work out so far are:

Spoiler:
Jack and Claire are maybe now the most important characters to the island in terms of plot- because they are related, and their Dad is the one that's often being used to communicate by the island. And there is the issue with her baby. I remember the dream sequences/ clairvoyant stuff which Claire had in Series One- where she's repeatedly told that she has to be the one that brings up the baby. But the baby is now being bought up by Kate off the island. Is that still relevant? What I can't work out is why they're now separated and she's now appearing in Kate's dream sequences telling her not to bring the baby back. I also can't work out whether Locke has deliberately faked his death in order to get the one's that left to go back, or whether he's really dead. The only thing that I think might be obvious is that Widmore was the guy who previously owned the island before it was taken over by the Others- and perhaps had something to do with the Dharma initiative, and now wants the island back- which I'm assuming will be part of the narrative drive for the next Season. But, lol, I'm just guessing here... It's a completely nutty show in both idea and the way it's edited. You don't really know what's going to happen next. I just like the way they do actually manage to fit the complicated jigsaw of a story together and drive the story forward, while jumping backwards and forwards in time, and also not revealing that much until they want to. They do actually manage to make it all fit together as a plot, even if they go off the scale in terms of imagination. There are very few loose ends (so far)- technically. Mind you, I had to laugh when Penny says to Desmond, at the end of the last series, when he asks her how she found him- 'I have a tracking station'. Right!

Jenn, my dear friend. After reading that- do think Lost is any saner than before....?

Ok, before Jen complains again... :smt002

So, did anyone else watch it? I liked the hour-long recap that they had first. It's difficult to remember a lot after a long break, plus I think it clarified for me the different groups of people and their relationships to one another. I think I had assumed that The Others were remnants of the Dharma Initiative, but they were described as the 'indigenous' people of the island. (Funny, in that case, that they are not all of the same ethnicity! :smt018 )

I thought the episode was great. They have quite a task to gather together all of the Oceanic 6 and convince them. I'm surprised that Ben isn't looking for Desmond, too, since I have a feeling he is also needed. Ana Lucia's appearance was funny, too.

During the recap, when they were showing some of the orientation tapes, I suddenly wondered if we would ever actually see the guy who recorded them, and it turned out that we did! Also during the recap, when Widmore told Ben that Ben had taken everything from him, or something like that, I definitely thought what I think Dragon had previously suggested - that Widmore was the man behind Dharma. We'll see if that turns out to be true.

I have a love/hate relationship with Lost. It frustrates me because I feel that each episode leaves me with more questions than answers but I can't help be sucked in by it all. I did watch it last night. The episode was good but not earth shattering.

I can't watch it anymore because the series has gone off terrestrial tv in the UK, went to Virgin and finally ended up on SKY (which I don't have).

I understand what you mean Natasha- if you just watch each episode on a weekly basis it can sometimes be frustrating. I came to the conclusion (a while back) that it's better to wait and buy each series on dvd (or download) and watch them at your leisure- which means you can watch as many episodes on a single viewing as you want to- and also get to the end more quickly. Because the series and plot is quite complicated (and pretty mad!) it seems to work better (at least for me) that way. I noticed it got a bit flabby during the middle of Season 3, which if you're watching on a weekly basis can put you off over the space of time. But if you viewed the season over the space of several days on and off consecutively and got to the end- the Season 3 finale was a knockout. I had a little bit the same with Season 4. It started off a bit slack, but got much better at the end- the only difference is I watched the whole season over about ten days in the evening. I can imagine having to wait and watch each episode every week can sometimes put you off- particularly if it isn't a good episode at that time, or there are about three in a row that are a bit average!

Lol, but I am also Ben! :-)

I watched it and like Juana enjoyed the recap beforehand.
So much goes on that I sometimes get confused ... but I am soooooo into this program, which promises more answers than questions this last season ... still waiting for that to happen!

Something I read described this as the "penultimate" season, which means there will be one more? I also had thought this was to be the last - maybe the writer didn't know the meaning of "penultimate" - with the English skills I have been noticing in news articles for a while now, it wouldn't surprise me at all.
