That sounds good Karen - I had a fry-up the other day. Yesterday I made little shit and carrots and will have the leftovers again today.

For most of us here in the states I think I can safely say we all had turkey, stuffing potatoes and gravy and assorted other side dishes depending on your family traditions. We ate around 2:00 and I still feel full. I never intend on over eating, but everything tastes so good and there is always so much. My mom thinks she's feeding 40 people even though there were only 8 of us. But I'm always thankful we have so much when too many have too little.

I had Cornish game hen with sage and onion stuffing, roast potatoes, green beans and kernel corn and gravy. Mizz Smiff made a Dutch Apple Pie (apple crumble) and I baked it!! In the evening I nibbled on some more hen until I realized half of it was gone. I shall have the other half today with all the same veggies.

I've never had Boar pâté , is it a strong flavor?

Sounds like it would go with a new recipe I want to try for a savory Biscotti ( I'll put recipe in recipe thread)

No it wasnt strong, just tasted slightly luxurious.

It was made from 20% boar meat, pork, pork fat and pork livers.

What's potato dopinoise?

I haven't had dinner yet, but had minestrone soup, homemade hummus on pita, and a beet and field greens salad for lunch. For desert, apple/cranberry crisp (crumble). I'm still pretty full, so maybe just some oatmeal for dinner.

We're planning on grilling hamburgers this evening. If we can get the camp grill to fit inside the fireplace without having to take out the grate that is in there we shall grill inside. Otherwise WB said he would put on his woolies and stand outside in the cold in front of the BBQ grill. We've both had a yen for cheeseburgers done on the grill.

It's a wood fireplace, and we're just going to cook over the coals after the fire dies down, so I think we'll be just fine. Like I said, the tricky part will be getting the grill - which is essentially a wire rack- to fit in there without falling down into the fire. I want grilled burgers, not ashy bits of burnt meat.

I love a nice spag bol. It hits the hunger spot just nicely. I usually gently cook mine for at least an hour or so- just to let it all soak in. It's nice re heated as well, if you have left overs, the next day.

Either way, I chickened out! I went shopping tonight and bought a pizza instead. I suddenly couldn't be arsed- I made a Masala last night. I'll do one tomorrow instead. Typical male living on his own ;-)

I don't think she was asking so much whether or not it's considered slang as whether or not it means spaghetti bolognese (which is what I was also assuming).

Aye Juana. If you hadn't deduced by now ( :smt002 ) it's an abbreviation for 'Spaghetti Bolognese' that Brits sometimes use. It's deeply upsetting and worrying, I know. We occasionally like to 'abuse' our own language and other languages too....No one else would do that, though, of course......Would they?

I made pasty for dinner last night. I probably will have leftovers for dinner, WB is out of town for a couple of days - he left this morning.
Then again I might just have a cup of yogurt, depends on how motivated I am to eat.

It's too hard to cook for myself. I don't know how those of you that live alone manage to eat properly. WB is convinced that if I was left up to my own devices I'd subsist on lettuce and air.

There's only two of us, and it took me a while to sort out how to scale down so there's not loads of leftovers after my son moved out. Some thing you just can't do 'small' so I plan on making a full batch and just portion it out for the freezer for nights I don't feel like cooking. I no longer make turkeys or roast chickens; we make game hens instead, and I use the bones and leftovers to make soup. I think if John was left on his own he'd live on egg salad.

KW - believe it or not, I find it easy to cook for just me. With soups stews and the such I just freeze it in portions. With curry I now make a large quantity of sauce only and freeze in portion sizes - I then cook whatever meat or fish I want in that one portion. With meat, I portion it out and freeze - I wrap each portion in cling wrap making it easier to take out just one from the freezer zip bag.

Right now I have a pork chop in the oven with some spuds and will also have some green beans. I eat my main meal at lunch.

Well, I don't like lettuce, so that would never do for me!

I just keep it simple; nothing that requires recipes or various ingredients. A piece of meat (boneless pork chop for tonight), with some garlic powder and whatever other seasoning I fancy, some frozen vegetables that I just have to throw into boiling water or the microwave. Probably the most involved is the starch, but even that isn't tough at all - a baked potato, Lipton's pasta or rice mix, instant mashed potatoes, pasta, Uncle Ben's microwave rice, etc. That's my typical dinner, with occasional variations (like I might have fresh corn on the cob in season, or something like that); it pretty much follows the meal plan that the nutritionist gave me years ago.

And like Silver, I freeze most of my meat, individually wrapping them and then putting them in a big plastic container that I call my 'meat locker'. Some things come individually wrapped already, which is handy, like Perdue Perfect Portions chicken breasts and the buffalo filets. Those I pop right into the freezer as soon as I get them home. Wrapping is a pain.

Saturday, though, I almost always have Betzio's frozen pan pizza, and on Sundays I frequently have a frozen dinner (favorites are Smart Ones mandarin sesame chicken or low-fat mac and cheese). Weekends are just a different animal from weekdays!
¡Cuchi, cuchi!
